Getting Started

What would be the first thing I need to get started with for my start up? I have ideas as to what service I want the website to provide and have little much of nothing as far as funds. My best friend suggested hiring students. Is that a good idea, and if so, how do I protect my idea from being stolen?

One more thing; I for got to mention the most important thing. I don't know the first thing about how to go about it. In my case I hope honesty helps.
